Why it’s time we were beyond harsh on benefits.

Let’s get real for a second, our current benefit system which has many parts to it adds up to around 29% total public spending.  That’s around £217 billion in 2015/2016.

Question:  Is this right and does it matter?

When you look at the mess of the NHS, Education and the same old story of the railways you have to ask what can we do with that money?

Course not all of it is wasted on single parents who refuse to work, spend thousands on their kids at Christmas or spend a lot on improving their physical looks seeking perfection.  The thing is though people like that DO exist.  People DO spend money on alcohol instead of bills, people DO spend on drugs and night outs.

“It keeps our economy running”

Correction, if they were working they would be paying tax or perhaps a bit less tax and still spending their “earnings” on alcohol, drugs and night outs.  I remember once being told those who spend a lot on cigarettes are helping to fund our NHS but we’ve had a severe cut down on smokers (thanks to e-cigs, health worries and costs).  Yet the funding the NHS has been unaffected by this.  In fact it’s us leaving the NHS the EU, other cost rises plus not long ago the financial crises that has impacted the NHS.  The biggest issue with the NHS is queues and too many people needing help.

This “helps the economy” is a total whitewash of an excuse.  If people were working instead of living a life of luxury on benefits they would be better contributing to this nation.

Now before we start whining about the politicians and their “bending” of the system to keep their friends in tax benefits for businesses etc – I immediately want their lives strung up from abusing the system.  The only difference is they are actually working and in the public eye a lot of them ARE being strung up for abusing the system.  The press do it, we do it and everyone watches them like a hawk.  Our ex-Prime Minister couldn’t even enjoy travelling in style as a leader of our nation instead sat in the same queues the rest of us do.  Was on a flight just with the rest of us “common” people.  Which I have to say I do not agree with – the leader of our nation should be going in style – it’s the rest of the politicians who should be paying their share of taxes, not claiming expenses and should be resorting to credit cards like us common folk.

This however is about those abusing benefits, the everyday folk who abuse it while others who need it to buy food and pay bills get very little.  This is about those who are disabled and are having their benefits cut.

I’ve said all along it’s time for tokens.  This prevents the waste, prevents the abuse and is used towards those who “NEED” it.

This doesn’t include everyone
I’ve stated before that some people on benefits are really feeling the cuts, are struggling with bills and even to put food on the plate.  These people cut down to their essentials only.  THEY are the ones who need the benefit system.  I’ve warned that the nation is getting tired of working hard to struggle while there ARE those who truly need it but there ARE those who do not need it.  Who take advantage of the benefit system.

What’s interesting is those who do need it don’t tend to target other people on benefits – why is this?  Surely it’s better for them and all of us if the abusers stopped.  Surely it’s better especially for those that NEED the benefit system that the abuse stopped.  If everyone right now who was on the benefit system actually “NEEDED” it – I doubt we would see people complaining.  We wouldn’t see these cuts and we’d actually feel sympathy for those who actually do NEED it.

It’s time we stood together or face further cuts perhaps even worse
This is something I’ve said for years, if it spirals out of control it will see cuts and it will see real people in need suffer for it.  Sadly this has been happening for a few years now.  And before people start claiming “it’s the press” correction many of us know people on benefits.  Who lie to claim, who drink alcohol and smoke, who spend high on Christmas.  We also know some who struggle to pay their bills but the thing is I know people who work that struggle to pay bills who get zero help.  I know people who are still in a queue for a council house because a single mum who is told she can get a place if she leaves her boyfriend will get a house within 2 weeks.  When a single mum then continues to get pregnant and have more children she is told she can get a bigger place.  While a young couple will continue – you guessed it – to sit in a queue.

Where has the self-responsibility gone?
Once upon a time the majority of our nation regardless of gender, age, language and nationality understood this term.  It’s where every major decision had a consequence.  It didn’t matter if you was highly educated or not, everyone understood education was important and self-reliance was a priority.  It’s why kids grew up and wanted to leave home as soon as possible.  To pay bills, to get a car and to be independent.

Sadly we’ve become a society of blame, a spineless cowardly culture and a take TAKE people.  It’s never our fault, it’s never our responsibility and just give me a hand out.

The worst part of the whole thing is we are raising an even less back boned culture.  If children are being raised in a world where it’s okay to lie, cheat and take handouts without any care for the Country what hope do we really have?  And before anyone claims it’s not true – try working in education.  Where you see those young kids not caring about tomorrow.  When young girls say they can earn more on benefits by having children.  When young girls are saying they don’t care about School because they can just get pregnant.  When young girls are stating that it doesn’t matter where they get sex from because boys always want it anyway.  I wish I was joking on those lines but that’s exactly what I’ve heard many times.  Even some of my exs and friends were more than happy to just get pregnant with no regards of tomorrow and didn’t even care if they were single because they will “get a house and money”.

We’ve created this culture or shall I say people who abuse and don’t need benefits have created this culture.  People who spend thousands on things they don’t need and don’t care about “take”.

Think it’s time we all stood against this and stopped defending those who abuse the system.  As I said before if we don’t start stopping these abusers they will continue and those who actually do struggle day to day will be the ones who suffer.  Remember this isn’t about attacking those who NEED it, it’s about stopping those who don’t NEED it.
