Personal: Uniform

Follow me on Twitter
Schools are under tremendous pressure to succeed, raising standards, grades and the major inspections from Ofsted.

If one of these parts fail this could lead to the School being shutdown or placed in special measures (later part usually comes first).  This also means that leadership are immediately removed: Head Teacher, Deputy Heads and possibly even the Assistant Head Teachers and Heads of Departments - we're talking around 10-20 Staff removed and their careers in possible tatters.

Having worked in Education for many years I've seen Schools suffer this harsh punishment and rightly so, if they are not good enough they should be shut down.  Just like in my current job if I am not good enough I should be shown the door - the end.

So Uniform, like it or not this plays a major part in self respect to the School outfit and also affects respect towards the School > Staff.  With one word "Discipline".  Anyone that's worked in Education will know this is true, we've all been kids and we've all at times tried to cheek our way out from the Uniform.  The exact same shoes these kids are trying to get away with are the exact same ones I've tried to wear - black trainers and black suede leather.  It's always those two that kids try and get away with and Parents are just as bad if they don't bother to adhere to the uniform policy.

School Policy
Every Parent should be sticking to the School policies just as much as every Student and every member of staff - regardless.

Anyone not sticking to them are apart of the problem in todays educational problems.  There's a reason why Schools don't always force the policy and the recent press have summed it up.  You have the Parents not happy and causing a fury, threaten to tell the papers, threaten to pull their kids out and refuse to ignore their own stubbornness.  Like it or not these Parents are apart of the problem, they don't want to help the School in moving forward they are right and they know better when it comes to behaviour and School discipline.  After all these Parents deal with a class of up to 30 Students every hour.  After all these Parents deal with their children showing off with their friends all day every day.  After all while trying to teach these kids the Parents fully know what it's like to watch them sit on their phone all day every day and act like their social life is more important than their Education.

WRONG, Parents should be actually - MUST be supporting the School otherwise frankly they are bad Parents.

I can speak from experience on this one:
"You go to School to learn not come home to do School work"
"You wear what I get you"
"I cant afford that"
"I believe my Son over the School"
"My Son is no liar"

These are terms my own mother would use and frankly they were wrong, course at the time I didn't care - I was a little brat.  I grew up, I opened my eyes and realised the world didn't centre around me.

Parents
You're a bad Parent because you are setting a very bad example in allowing your child to ignore the rules.  When they leave School and go to a job, they will be most likely expected to wear certain clothing.  Some companies like it or not will NOT allow flexibility.

I might be generalising but it's true let's face it, some Parents can make mistakes and those kids are resolved within a day or at least spoken to the School in a professional way.  Then there are "those" Parents who refuse to follow the Uniform.  Well done for again being apart of the major problem in Education.  Instead of supporting the School to raise standards throw a tantrum, throw your toys out of the pram and continue to set a fantastic example to your grinning child who finds it funny.  Well done I applaud you - your child will learn to fight the rules and find it funny not to have any discipline.

What a disgusting Parent you are - again WELL DONE.  I'm sure your child will raise their children to be the exact the same and act like life should be handed to them on a silver plate.  I look forward to them abusing the benefit system and not having a career in some way.  I'm sure they may end up having a child by 16 - well done.

Again - generalising but it tends to be true like it or not.

Twitter
The state of some of the responses on twitter show an utter lack of understanding and knowledge of the educational system - Uniform doesn't matter.  Wrong - it matters, the best educational authorities around the world are 100 times more harsher than our own nation especially on Uniform.  Once upon a time when this Country had a good educational system kids had a School uniform and that was it.  There wasn't choice on shoes, there wasn't choice in shorts, skirts or trousers.  You adhered to the Uniform - the end.

Twitter is absolutely full of people who don't spend enough time in education just because you "deal" with it - means nothing.  My suppliers deal with education but they are still far from clueless at the state of behaviour.  Visitors, governors, Ofsted and Parents are all clueless when it comes to behaviour in the School.

Funny thing is, if it was their child being bullied they would demand that it get resolved.  They would scream that behaviour is ignored, major problem and is brushed under the carpet.  Yet these same Parents would scream against sorting out the Uniform which in turn helps Behaviour.

Schools
More and more Schools are pushing to improve Uniform all for one thing - Raising Standards.
They are not doing it because they want to, they are not doing it to control everything they are doing it for those two words.  Even Schools that are classed as "cruising" are having no choice but to sort out the uniform.

For those who don't know what cruising means, it means they are happy to prod along as they are, not making major improvements in grades, Ofsted inspections and standards.  It's a School that doesn't change their ways to move forward.  The best Schools in the Country are those hard on Uniform to the point they don't need to make changes, hard on discipline because they must succeed and the Parents know this.  There is no meet me half way, your child is here to LEARN.

Cruising is really like a steady cruise control of your car.  Nothing more, nothing less.

Every School must improve if they are not reaching their maximum potential.  Like it or not the Government doesn't see that your child has ADHD, they don't see a family death, they don't see your child in foster care or abuse.  They see one thing - a child capable of getting great results.  That's what they see with every School.

Every piece of clothing that has been denied in all the photos, I wouldn't allow them in so why are Parents buying them? if unsure ASK the School you've had plenty of notice so don't deny it.

Time to wake up Parents and support your School and YOUR child.  Get over your self and grow up.

What a surprise it's those kind of Parents who come from shall we say Council estate backgrounds, the ones who really don't care about their child's education.

Not a nice thing to say but usually true.
